Yah i understand where your coming from, i read up to chapter 150 of detective conan before giving up on it (congrats for lasting longer than i did lol). This manga is completely different in my opinion. Unlike Conan, this series has characters that you will fall in love with and truly respect. And there are so many good role models for hard work also it`s very funny. I suggest you watch the anime and read from where the anime left off. But it has a good plot as well and i haven`t been bored of the series yet, in fact im actually quite obssessed with the show hahaha.

I still get as giddy as I was when I first fell in love with the series. If you are a boxing fan, or are looking to get into the boxing, read this. You'll learn tons of information on technique, and as long as you can discard the exaggerated content, you'll have a acceptable boxing IQ. The characters are interesting, and the plot is simple, but it doesn't have to be complex. Hajime no Ippo is essentially about reading about what goes on in between fights and then being dazzled when they happen. There isn't a moment in this manga that isn't boring enough to warrant putting it down.

They're always introducing new intriging characters with developed back grounds and life stories, between all of the fighters that you meet and the extras(I call this sickly girl syndrome) its always entertaining. even the characters that are completely hated you love, given that they're often times more interesting than the protagonist. AND HE'S REALLY INTERESTING!!! Its funny too. During the fights sometimes you can wonder how long its going to go(20 chapters of fighting can get a bit dull) but at the climax its always worth it. and since there is 800 chapters you don't have to worry about waiting for the next chapter for a long time, I say give this series a read. One of my favorite things to do is to compare the art in its arcs to the others. It's evolved since ch1 to a point you wouldn't recognize Ippo.
