So Haru the "American" guy... Agh! Okay My grandma and my old Auntie are the only people in the like whole world i know who kiss when we meet! I refuse of course because i find it really disturbing and it makes me really uncomfortable.
But then what's the big deal with Kyouta and w.e being like "He came from America, With his greeting just randomly kissing others." Okay he must be really corrupt. I know some places in Europe people do that, and i'm cool with that, but if there's one thing we American's don't do is invade people's personal bubbles so retardtedly? When i went to Europe and the Uk, some of the women and men who's bed and breakfasts we stayed in (me and my mom) they kissed us or did the cheek rubbing kiss thing. I was like "BLACH!" but they were really nice so it's cool But yea... We don't do that. Their really mean to the Americans in Shin Chan if you ever noticed :l "Fine, we'll ride my bike to your school like those fat american kids."

Yeah, I'm always amused by Japanese portrayals of Americans. The kissing on the cheek thing is definitely more European (specifically French--and even more specifically Parisian). People across the board in the U.S. are much more conscious of their personal space. Hugging is okay if you're young and you know the other person fairly well.
I was also amused when I read Skip-Beat! and Ren does this one gesture that is both sneer and shrug. Apparently, that's considered an American gesture. It definitely isn't. I guess Japanese mangaka aren't as exposed to American culture as they think they are... Just like Air Gear's Oh-Great!, whose mastery of the English language is pretty bad. His "Obama" speeches never fail to crack me up. Use Babelfish, Oh-Great! That's what it's there for! |

definitively NOT ONLY french people do that!!!!!
I'm from Venezuela (south America) and it's reallyyyy common for people to kiss on the cheek or do the cheek rubbing thing for greetings!! even if you just met someone.. not sure though if that's the case for all latin american people..and also now I'm living in Italy and we use 2 kisses for greetings ![]() !!! even between men.. but that's not the case for Venezuela lol only 1 kiss and definitively not between men.. I still can't get used to see that..But I do know that not everyone does it so it's not like I go kissing everybody.. first a handshake and then maybe a kiss specially if it's a foreigner or something

Yeah, I'm American too, and no one really kisses like that. Nor have I've heard of anyone named Halsted either. (I keep on reading it as "Holstein"...lol). But I see happen in other manga (Americans like to kiss strangers) which still puzzles me.

But then again, American perception of Asian cultures is just as stereotyped or amusingly incorrect as well. As a Chinese-American, it's not hard to notice them. |

what's the big deal???lots of people kiss when they meet(in my country it's like an obligation to do that and if u don't u ll be like the bad guy and everyone'll say that u r a bad kid and u need to behave urself BLABLABLA......)4 me I really HATE that habit
it's kinda disgusting actually!back to the main topic,I think that Kyouta saying that he kissed Hibino cuz he's used to live aboard is the mangaka's way of saying that America is different from Japan which is totally normal....

yeah im American too but i very rarely see other fellow Americans kiss then hug each other. its more of a wave or hug thing if you know the person pretty well but in Mexico its standard to kiss and hug each other so i've been on both sides of the kiss/hugging greeting culture thing. i actually like kissing and hugging strangers i feel more accepted and acknowledged that way or maybe i just think its cool cuz i like doing things that my main culture doesnt. lol i love other cultures xD im half American and Hispanic
