Many people think medaka likes Zen, however i have come to the conclusion she doesn't at all.

Yes, Medaka has said some things or reacted in ways that may seem like it, but I dont think they are what we think. And here is why:

Scene 1: Chapter 1: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/medaka...1/c001/53.html and page 55 as well.
At the end of this chapter we see Medaka tell Zen that its because of him she is able to do what she does, and does the cute girl mode and throws herself in his arms.

While it may seem like Medaka has feelings for him, I believe she just told him all this to get him into the council. And as we see later, Medaka uses her cute face to Akune to get him to do what she wanted. Similar to how she used it on Zen to get him to do what she wanted.

Ill come back to this after seeing the other scenes.

Here we see what looks like jealousy on Medaka's part for Zen spending time with Shiranui, and I even thought so when this chapter came out, because i posted about it. However looking at more things, I believe that Medaka wasn't jealous, but was irritated that the council seemed to be relying on others outside the council, and therefor it may make them look bad. She wants the council to solve its problems, and not need outside help to do it, thats why she went and solved the problem herself.

On page 19, when Zen tells her that he and Shiranui can solve it, she gets angry, because he brought up that him and somebody not of the council would solve it. I dont believe she got jealous because he was doing it with Shiranui.

Here Zen walks in on Medaka almost completely naked, and she doesn't care at all. Its embarrassing for a girl to be seen like that, and if it was by a boy you liked, the results would be disaster. However she didn't even care, almost as if she didn't even see him as a man.

Here Medaka more or less says, "the council can do anything without fail."
This ties in with the next scene.

Here we see Zen losing his duel with Akune. Seeing this, and right after announcing the council can more or less do anything, Medaka shouts encouragement to Zen.

This may be the only scene where Medaka may have been serious about her feelings.its about a 50/50 chance she was serious about what she said, or she shouted it to give Zen the encouagement he would need so that the council wouldn't look bad.

She says she wont tie herself down to any man. She doesn't plan on having a boyfriend any time soon.

here we see Medaka's cute face again, this time used on Akune. Many thought that that face was only for Zen prior to this scene. Medaka used her cute mode to secure Akune's loyalty, as the page before shows him irritated about the job, but right after he is completely being controlled by Medaka after being given the cute face. Just like Zen was when he was debating on joining the council. Medaka used the cute face and him in the palm of her hand.

Here Medaka even says she doesn't care who he loves, after him yelling out to Shiranui. A girl who liked him would have at least show some emotion. Instead she hits him in the head to get his head back in the game.

Here we see once again medaka use her cute girl face to lock somebody else in her grip. And on a girl this time.
More or less this means medaka doesn't use her cute face girl for anyone special to her.

Medaka walks in on the two of them in a very suggestive position, and doesn't even bat an eye. She even sighs, and tells them they shouldve at least locked the door. She didn't care Zen was with Kikaijima.

Even the students think that Medaka treats Zen poorly.

Looking at all these, there are many similar coincidences. Either Medaka needed to gain control over somebody, or the council was going to look bad.

I really dont think Medaka has any romantic feelings toward Zen at all, but sees him more as the loyal servant who is expected to serve her.

We have seen more romantic scenes and lines between Shiranui/Zen and Kikaijima/Zen then between Medaka and Zen.

Good, detailed arguments. For me one of the best indicators that she doesn't see Zen as love interest but just as childhood friend or servant, was the kiss. Even if it was a girl to kiss someone in front of the guy she is supposed to like would cause at least some hesitation, but there is no, and the reason is that she doesn't like Zen in a more intimate way.

I wonder if those who think Medaka likes Zen can find as detailed contra-arguments now.

Honestly, I don't think Medaka CAN love anyone. She says that she loves everyone and she wants to help them, because it's the only thing that gives her satisfaction in life (this might come from the one shot). To me, this can be interpreted two different ways-- one, she helps people because she's really nice or she helps them because it's the only way for her to get any thrills, which would make it a more selfish reason. Being the cynical bastard that I am, I go for the latter choice as due to the way her personality is presented, it definitely is a potential theory.

I also believe that Medaka doesn't care about other people's feelings in general, as I have pointed out. It may just be her ignorance, but just look at the things she's done in her quest to help everyone. As you mentioned, she gets undressed in front of Zenkichi without giving a single thought to the way he feels about it. There's also the kissing incident (and the many kissing incidents before that, which Zen tells us all about) where she steals everyone's first kiss. Given how the first kiss is usually treated in manga, it's a pretty big deal. I also believe that she's someone who'd force her help upon someone who doesn't want it. You know, how a man may not accept help as a matter of pride. I doubt she'd be able to understand that and would come up with some more of her ridiculous speeches and jump right into help. Normally, this would actually further the problem and possibly make the other person angry, but sadly, in Medaka's world, she's always right, so instead we'd get some sappy, unrealistic sudden change of heart. :\

Zen really needs to get up off this lap dog kick and become more like he was in the one shot. He has shown signs of doubt in the past, but so far, his lack of progress has been disturbing.

I'm just waiting for the day that Zenkichi realizes what we have all along-- that Medaka doesn't love him and probably will never be capable of it. It's just the way her personality is.

Very nice analysis with plenty of supporting evidence. Now, I would like to see the people that feels that there is romance between the two of them come forth and give a rebuttal (please don't make an argument based on your feelings and intuitions.)

I am sure he knows it better then anyone else because he "knows her best". On one hand, we got a male lead blinded by love, and on the other hand, we have one female lead using the love of the male lead to her advantage. Not a very good combination. ~

I wouldn't be surprised if she turned out to be asexual. I personally believe there is no romance and the characters are just thrown together without any serious connection to one another. Until Medaka straight out declares love for Zenkichi, there aren't enough facts to oppose your viewpoints.

Well, that wouldn't make a difference what so ever, seeing as though she was so quick to proclaim her love to Kikajima a few hours after the competition. It would just seem to be more of a way to make sure Zenkichi stays by her side as a loyal, obedient lap dog.

Too bad this manga is losing popularity and it might be the next one getting cancelled after To-Love-Ru, after all it was a bad idea to put a reverse harem into a shounen magazine.

which is a shame since this manga was doing great.
I used to really look forward to each chapter, and then we started seeing super medaka every chapter and lapdog Zen.

There are very FEW shoujo manga's I have enjoyed, and this is nowhere near good enough.

Zen breaking off from the council would probably be a brilliant move for this manga. The shock of seeing a character we all like actually doing something we think would be amazing. Depending on how the author writes it, he could kinda get a reset on the manga.

Zen leaves the council for a time, ignores Medaka or something a long those lines, Medaka panics, realizing why he left, and becomes more humble, eventually convincing Zen to rejoin the council, at which point we could refocus the story back on Zen with a more humble and human support female lead Medaka.

However, there is little the author can do if this kid genius sits on the council.

However, he may also be planning on having Onigase join the council, but the thing is, the only spot left is vice president, which isn't a problem really. What IS a problem is that in the beginning Medaka told Zen to climb up the ranks of the council, which is impossible if all the ranks are filled.

Really the only salvaging idea that could save this manga is if Zen leaves the council.
