Default The Irony

Four Shoujo Stories, is hardly Shoujo at all. The first one maybe, however the 2nd and 3rd were scifi seinen in parts while the 4th was more a tragic seinen. I guess this shows the shifts in tone for certain demographics in these years.

On the contrary, all of these are DEFINITELY Shoujo. It's true that over time tastes in manga evolved (or rather publisher's opinions of readers' tastes have evolved), but these are very shoujo pieces. Sci-fi is rare in shoujo manga today, but it was very common back in the 1970s and 1980s.

They Were Eleven deals gender identity and sexuality with the character Frol, a very strong shoujo theme, as well as the mental states of the characters on its 54 day isolation.

Changeling deals with anthropological issues on a purely philosophical basis, this approach is defined as "shoujo" since its main theme with deals with relationships, whether it between people (Sephiloth and his human child), civilizations (Sephiloth's people and Lin's people), or differences in social hierarchy (Sephiloth's people and the noble race).

Since You've Been Gone is more of a Josei title that deals with a marriage and affair, but was written before Josei was really established. So historically, I'd say it's shoujo. The shoujo before josei.

I can't imagine where you got the "seinen" impression from.
