.hack is a huge mega series, which braches off into manga, books, anime, video games, and movies. Most is non-cannon, thought. This series is the third newest in order of events (counting .hack//G.U. and G.U.+ as the same), being the first one set in Revision 2, the second version of THE WORLD (the game that they're playing).

I don't know much about this particular one, but the basic story-line in all the .hack branches is that there are bugs in THE WORLD (whether it's R:1 or R:2). This is the one that I haven't seen anything like that, so it's possible that it'll be introduced in later chapters, and/or follow a completely different track.

((I'm not sure if it states that this is R:2, but you can tell anyway by the fact that Raid is wearing a similar outfit to Kuhn from G.U. and G.U.+, and Cat-Obsessed-Multi-Weapon is wearing a similar outfit as Sakubo, also from G.U. and G.U. plus.))

Don't worry about starting somewhere that isn't the beggining. I, myself started on .hack//SIGN, and then jumped all over the place. But if you did want to start at the beggining, here's a chronological list of the branches (don't quote me on it, though).

.hack//A.I. Buster (book)
.hack//A.I. Buster 2 (book) (it junmps around the timeline, as it's a collection of stories, but I'ma puttin' it here anyway)
.hack//SIGN (anime)
.hack//Another Birth(book) (as well as the video games for PS2 known as Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine. And of course, .hack//XXXX manga)
.hack//Zero ? (book?) (I don't know much about this one, but I asume it comes before LOT)
.hack//Legend of the Twillight(manga) and .hack//Dusk (anime)
.hack//End of the World (I've heard of it, but I'm not sure what it really is...)
.hack//GnU(manga)
.hack//ROOTS(anime)
.hack//G.U. (video games), .hack//G.U.+(manga) and .hack//TRILOGY(movie)
.hack//LINK(manga)

Legend of the Twillight/DUSK is considered non-cannon, as well as .hack//G.U.+, .hack//XXXX and TRILOGY. Like said, I'm not sure about Zero, since I've never read it.

The series thing at the top says that it's ongoing, meaning that there are more chapters. It's up to the scanlation groups to decide when to do it, and since april 20th was the last update, I don't think that anyone's doing this manga... the best you could do is probably find the raws somewhere ^-^

No . . . the best thing you can do is to go and buy the book yourself, IMO . . . >.>

All the .hack// mangas are licensed by Tokyo Pop, so the scanlation group dropped all the .hack// projects. Tokyo Pop is kind of picky about scanlation issue, so no other scanlation group picks it up. I'd say, if you live either in Japan or US, or the places where .hack// mangas can be found in bookstores, go buy the books yourself. Other than that, expect no release for a time being (and maybe . . . never again . . . >_<")
