okay, when the 1 year thing happens, we know everyone's age. Yuuki is 17, Zero is 18, and Kaname is 19. But the thing is, both yuuki and zero's ages are in human years, and kaname's is in vampire. since we do not know the scale of vampire/human years, we don't actually know kaname's age. Like, he could be 95872 for all we know! and really, I know it was like 'oh, 10 years ago, the kuran parents died, and kaname(yuuki too) is now an ophan' but really, this could be in vampire years.

That brings me to another subject. when exactly did the 'event' happen? It was said to take place 10 years ago, but they could be talking about 10 years in vampire. So, assuming the scale between human and vampire years are different, then this event could've happened hundreds of years ago! And I know yuuki's age is in human, but another thing about it. We don't know when Yuuki woke up in the snow storm. Kaname was ALOT different then before the incident happened. And she was the same age (supposedly). Also, the 'spell' Juuri put on Yuuki's body could've frozen Yuuki's body, which would stop her from aging.

The main problem: we don't know what the scale of vampire and human years are. We need to know!

If he is the ancestor of Kuran, and Juuri and Hakura were around 3,000 years old, I would throw in at LEAST another 3,000 years for their parents, and perhaps another 3,000 for theirs? Then 3,000 for him, if he was like a great grandparent or something. We just don't know exactly how ancestor-y he is, and that equation alone is worth a good 12,000 year estimate. He's older than dirt perhaps? Maybe he had pet dinos? We aren't sure yet.

LOL. Actually, we know that incident with Rido killing Haruka and Juri taking away Yuuki's memory was in human 10 years. We can conclude this by referencing it to Cross Kaien.

Because Cross is a human (which might have drunk a Pureblood's blood according to the most recent revelation) so if the time Cross met Juri (where he tries to kill her while she was pregnant with Yuuki), he was already a grown up, so I would assume the time referred to here is human 10 years. or else Cross would be a 80 year old hot grandpa! xD

Yes, we know it's human years because of that and because of the fact that all along throughout the manga, it's human Yuuki saying "ten years year ago, I was saved" every so often, and she was growing up as a human during those ten years... so it's indeed human years. XD

Otherwise, she wouldn't be 16 in human years, it would be something else.



As for Kaname's age, however old the ancestor may be, Kaname himself, in his current body (whatever it may be since Hino-sensei didn't go in details on that subject yet) is still young.

We saw that he too was a child back during the time just before they lost their parents. This was ten human years ago.
So if he was actually super old like people sometimes think, he'd already be an adult by then and wouldn't have grown up so much in just ten human years.

This and a number of other things make me think that the difference between human years and vampire years is actually pretty small. It doesn't matters much when they're growing up, it's just that once they reach adult age humans start growing old fast while vampires simply don't. That's where the big difference is.


The ancestor (soul or whatever it may be) is old, but Kaname's body isn't. Volume 6 mentions Aidou being the equivalent of 4 human years old when Kaname and him first met (not long before those human ten years previously mentioned), and Kaname was already the ancestor then.
So at age 5, Kaname was already the ancestor, although he didn't seem to have proper access to those memories (you can see him have a memory flash with a deja-vu effect, and look all confused by it), so we can wonder at what age he found out he was the ancestor and all. *rambles towards off topic now* XD

Yes, that's because he's 18/19 in vampire years, not human ones. That was 10 human years ago.

There's a little difference between human and vampire years, although we don't know exactly how much it is.


We don't know either if vampires hit puberty earlier or not. (It seems that way, though it's not mentioned officially.)
Kaname looked in his early teens or just before/pre-teen when Rido attacked the house and Yuuki's memories were sealed, so vampires might mature a bit faster than humans.
It would also explain why Kaname hits a growth spur later, (his body matures much faster during his teenage years than Zero's, who is also a vampire but was recently turned and who is ex-human and thus maybe growing up in a speed closer to that of a human.)

There's many little mysteries in VK, so until Hino-sensei reveals those things completely, we can only really make theories based on the elements we already know from the manga. :3

Another element to make it seem that vampire years are very close to human years is, they're still counting Zero's age in human years, despite the fact he's been turned ever since he was 13 (human) years old...

good ques ^^ i've been wondering bout it a lot
10 years ago when kaname saved yuuki, he looked like a teenager, and yuuki was such a small child!!!!
fast forward to the main events in this manga, yuuki is all grown up, but kaname is still as youthful as ever exactly like how he looked 10years ago
not to mention that throughout the 10 years, when kaname occasionally visits yuuki and the chairman, he always looks the same (never aged at all)...... and dont we all agree that kaname looks perfect in his night class uniform? god knows how old he is, and he still looks like a (matured) high-schooler!!!!!

I was just wondering...does Kaname actually know, or remember his past how many thousands of years back it was? If he was the ancestor of the kurans why was his soul placed in a new body several thousand years later, did i miss out some important fact in the manga?

..The age issue in VK is sooooooo misty and undefined,that doesnt really matter to me...

I think Kaname is like 6-7 years older than Yuuki....at least it seemes so from the pics.
