Shoujo Manga Man

Guy that treats the girl like trash to start off in the manga gets the girl in the end... if I tried I think I could name off at least 10 manga and/or anime that had this exact formula. It's tired, it's over used, and it was trash to begin with.
I guess if I had read this before a many others or before I watched many different anime... maybe I would have liked this a bit more, as it stands, setting aside his growth and change over the story as a whole... I could not like the guy. If I make an effort to step back and look at the manga objectively I could say that it wasn't bad, but it still wouldn't be something I'd rave about to my friends. Not impressed, nothing innovative or original here. That's just my 2 cents worth opinion, take from it what you will. |

Well it may be overused, but if you notice, in RL, most women would fall for that kind of guy. It's mainly the masochists though

are you serious? most women I know, including myself, would NOT fall for someone like that. these kinda stories annoy me as well :S
I never got the commonly accepted "truth" that most women prefer the bad guys :S It's weird. I mean.. why would anything want to be treated like trash? |

Definitely know what you mean.
But the whole reason is they would prefer the guy who is totally whipped for her over the nice guy who treats her nicely. It's an insecurity thing. They'd prefer the hot guy with the personality defect over the good looking guy with none. Most of the heroines in the manga are normal and somewhat plain girls so it's obvious that they are intimidated by a guy with no flaws. She probably thinks that he'll leave her without a second glance because he actually is too good for her. And the whole "wanting a fixer-upper" idea works too. |

i understand where your coming from about this concpt being overused, but you cant judge a manga jut because it starts out as something you've seen before.. i mean doesnt the begining make up only like.. 5 to 10% of the book? i think what really matters is what you do with the other 90-95% dont you think? although this started out kinda tastless, it turned out into something really good. i thinks it really infair how you just harshly dissed it like that when you probably havent even read the whole thing.

Shoujo Manga Man

Quote:
I fully can and will judge a manga for it's lack of creativity/originality. People do so constantly in the entertainment industry. Next time you go see a romance comedy in the theater, on dvd, or even online... who cares where/how, you'll see the same basic formula being used as such "boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back". You could probably find a few variations there of but the basic outline doesn't change much. That's not to say I won't go see the movie and enjoy it my grip with this particular manga formula is that the guy is a jerk and he still gets the girl... I don't like the formula, and inherently I dislike the manga that use it. I still read it, sometimes the guy surprises me, sometimes they have a very good reason for being the way they are and repent/change drastically... this one didn't do that. Sorry you disagree but it is only my opinion after all
