It's entirely because she's so stupid that she makes a great pair with him. He's used to normal reactions by, well, sane people who would cry or scream, or give him a bloody beat-down, which is why he's interested in her.
And sadly, there are people of that level of stupidity, who would act like that. I know a few.  I think they're complete idiots, but that level of devotion is something to be admired, I suppose...
