am i the only one who was a little disturbed by the last story? my, my, for one, the fact that midori san was his mother was a little problematic to me. she looked way too young to be his mother, he said that his mother gave birth to him when she was still very young then her younger sister (his adoptive mother) took him in. so even if she gave birth young, she's still older than his current mother but it definitely didn't look like it(his a doptive mother, who's supposedly younger than midori had wrinkles while midori looked like what? she's like a teenager! ok i know some people really look young but come on to look like a teenager when she's probably at least thirty-ish since satoru's like 15-17? is that possible?) am i dwelling too much on the trivial parts?
then he said he fell in love with her on first sight, then he found out that she's his biological mother, now if that's not disturbing i don't know what is. sigh. ok, i probably have a dirty or a shallow mind here but i felt like he still seemed to have romantic feelings for her even after he found out the truth. and again, that bothered me. ah well anyway, i'm not judging or anything though. but in any case, no matter how i look at it, this last story was quite painful, the romance part (assuming that my theory is correct), the part about being bitter, the part about being able to smile and not being afraid, the part about being afraid, the part about resisting change and wanting to hold on, the part about living, the part about dying, they were all painful, they were all quietly and beautifully rendered. actually all the stories here have that quiet and poetic feeling to it, i think it's because of the way the scenes were drawn and how the dialogues were presented. they were all nice, and yes a little disturbing and even a little twisted, i think (the last story i mean )

Remember when she kept saying that, 'She didn't want to melt' or something like that?! She was talking about her heart! She didn't want anything but to give her son her heart. So she kinda 'preserved' herself for him! OMG!! I just got that!! Wow, that's sad...*cries*

I felt that what he fell in love with was her view of the world, and her upbeat personality rather than her as a woman - because he simply didn't know her. She was the first person to show him a real smile, one that wasn't full of pity or remorse. She was the first person to give him that, and for that, at the beginning, she earned a place in his heart. In any case, a fabulous story of several of the many facets there are to the lonely word called Love, the one word that, at least in English, cannot fully explain all of it's meanings. (Platonic, fraternal, maternal/paternal, romantic, aching, soothing, run away, flash in the pan, enduring, psychotic, innocent, frantic, desperate, peaceful... so many kinds of "love")

In the beginning, I remember Midori was talking about this whole "never changing" thing... Maybe she has a sickness where her age doesn't physically show. I was quite confused about that part, so I'm just putting stuff out there as speculation. Looking past those details and everything, though, that story was very moving.

oh my goodness, i didnt know she was his mother till i read you guys' comments. I thought that she thought of him as her child, like he was able to make that close of a bond. There was a deeper meaning to this that i didnt know of, but i still cried.
~Thanks to you guys who explained the story! |

Whoa, I didn't catch that at all. I didn't think that she meant "my son" literally. That guy has a major oedipus complex right there. Seriously though, now I have to go back and reread that chapter under a new light.
