I don't know what to make of this..
Wouldn't it be insulting to be considered a dog?

Depends on the situation...
Like for this one, to being compared to a dog, it's referencing to dog like character and looks to a certain breed. However, there are instances where it is insulting. I believe, in Boys over Flowers, there is one instance, where, as an act of embarrassement, Makino compares Tsukasa to a dog, which is implying that he looks like a dog (like a bulldog). |

well....... thats if you look at it in a bad way, but if u look at it in a good way...... dogs are cute right? and the dog that girl had was friendly and had a good personality ( i think ) right? so its not really insulting if u think about it that way and plus that girl ( forgot her name ) loved her dog..........

it really depend on the person-you-are-calling-dog's personality. the happy-go-lucky, slightly dumb ones will take it as a joke while the serious kind of people would take it as an insult.

Coming from that girl it's fine. I mean, she's *really* fond of her dog, probably likes dogs better than people, so it's a compliment.
