Default Viz Translations?

Howdy~

I've just recently gotten into the manga, and I'm completely in love with it. Because of that I'm going to start collecting the volumes so that I'll have them in the future, but the only thing that bothers me is that Viz did the translations, and it's pretty well known that they aren't exactly the gods of translating... but they're way better than tokyopop... anyway, does anyone have the english volumes and can tell me whether or not they did decently on them or not?

no. they didn't. the viz translations are horrible. sometimes, when they quote something from an earlier chapter, the quote is different. or they accidently switch the words for the bubble and the small text that is sometimes there. i tend to find myself correcting them in my mind. but i guess they did an "okay" job overall. im just kind of a perfectionist.

Are Viz translation really that bad?
(Still asking but deep in heart feel glad for buying the Japanese one) ~.~

I just ever heard that they changed some character's name again and again. o_o

i admit i did make it kind of sound worse than it actually is, but it does bother me sometimes.

I may be one of the few, but I enjoy Viz's translations. Granted, I haven't been reading their D.Gray-man releases for very long, but from the other series I've read from them, I like their work. It's definitely better than Tokyopop's. I guess it just really depends on the staff of the series and I do have some stuff to nitpick on their D.Gray-man work, but so far I think they did a decent job on this series. They probably do have a problem with thorough proofreading, though.

Anyway, you should look through Viz's D.Gray-man releases at your local bookstore or borrow them from a library and decide for yourself.

hmph. I don't think viz translation is that bad.
I read a lots of manga by viz translation myself and I think they don't translate it badly.
And for Tokyopop, I think it's not too bad either and usually tokyopop manga has great storyline.

I'm thinking of buying the mangas soon. I just hope that the translations aren't that bad...

I own nine of the volumes and i like them exept the made alistar crowley. Arystar krowry. And the turned crow-chan into krorykinz cause they dont use the chan kun or san things and they made bak-chan into baky and komurin into komlin. Thats all
