It's been said earlier in the manga by Haruka that Mamoru was her "future husband", but there hasn't been any development on the "romantic" side of the story (if there even is one) since then. But I have to say, it's very respectable of the author to set up the story the way he did. This definately doesn't look like a lolicon manga, which I personally don't enjoy, so I think the romance may develop when Haruka grows up. And as for the age difference.... I don't think it's really an issue. We know Haruka is 12, and Mamoru looks around 24 (I'm just guessing), so that's a 12 year difference. My best friend's parents have a 13 year difference in age, and I baby-sit for a couple who have a 30 year difference in age, and they're perfectly happy together. I also think she's a good influence on Mamoru and is the reason he's softened up so much compared to his past self. I also think he's more sympathetic now. She's his opposite (in my opinion), and serves as a foil for him, bringing out new character traits for him, as he does for her. When we first met Haruka she was as weak (physically) as we could expect from a 12-year-old girl, and cried quite frequently, and used to cling to Mamoru's sleeve and shake (which is to be expected). But since she's met him she's become more mature, strong-willed, and can even take care of herself when fighting a bear or avoiding bullets in a gunfight! They complement each other perfectly, and I applaud the author for created such perfect coexisting characters. I'm excited to see the romantic development between the two as Haruka grows older.
So what do you guys think? Agree? Disagree? Would agree but can't stand the age difference?

Hello, SakuNaru94
Mamoru shakes off Haruka though she tells to believe him in Ch79. It seems to me that He has been already accepting to own his "Gou", and He seems never to share it with nobody. I wonder that the sadness of Haruka is extremely natural. Because it is the common problem which the woman who loved this kind of male has. Her tears are the proofs. OMG! She has already known the woman's heart. It seems to me that Her romance has already beginning to bud, although she is still a child. Therefore, I feel insecurity in the action of Mamoru. He is looking at her only for the purpose of his sword. I am expecting to see some changes to Haruka and Mamoru's relation in the appearance of AEGIS (He is a faithful man. AEGIS will be not able to overlook selfish action's Mamoru who hadn't attention for Haruka). However, I wonder that He do not notice her as a one woman until she becomes about 20 years old. Perhaps. I think They are about 15 years old difference! Last edited by Mikoto_Suwano; 11-04-2009 at 10:09 PM. |

I think that their relationship will remain more like a: Father/Daughter, Teacher/Student, Sensei/Pupil, Blind Guy/Precog relationship more than a romantic relationship. Also my prediction for the ending is that either Mamoru sacrifices his life for Haruka, or leaves her to experience a somewhat normal teenage life while he goes on his next adventure.

Don't really got anything to say, but just a warning: there was another thread a bit back that degenerated into a two-person (or maybe it was a three-person, can't remember) flame war about age gaps in relationships. So, yeah.
And the Pessimistic Pomeranian strikes again! But seriously, canon relationships -- or even future relationships -- I'm pretty much neutral towards. Non-canon pairings I can get all up in arms about, but canon -- the author's already decided, so no use wanting it otherwise. Doesn't mean that I hate it, however; simply neutral.

As for the "why isn't there any romance?" queston going around... think carefully about Haruka's age right now, I am sure once she hits like 19 or so there'd be some romance going on; but right now they haven't even been together that long, and there were no huge timeskips as of yet... I wouldn't expect any romance unless this series pulls something like "Bloody Monday" and gives us a timeskip of about 3-5 years.

I love their current relationship. But I would also love to see a time skip for two reasons:
1. To see a much more romantic relationship between Mamoru and Haruka. Their little petty fights are hilarious. And Haruka's small jealous looks have me rolling. A time skip would only further this hilarity. 2. To see an older bad ass Haruka kicking the crap out of someone. Either on her own or alongside Mamoru. Time skip ftw XD
