There are MANY SB male fans. You'd be surprised but there are actually more boys reading shoujo than girls. Really! I think it's kinda stupid and stereotypical to categorize manga by demographic. As long as something is well-written, anyone is likely to read and like it. The idea that most girls like romance while most boys prefer action(general characteristics of shoujo and shounen correspondingly) is quite narrow-minded imo. This mainly applies to kids around 14 years old.

I have to disagree there. I'm not sure about shounen and girls, but I've seen polls and people, and most shoujo readers are indeed girls. There are boys, but the majority is girls. It's not narrow-minded; shoujo manga is purposely aimed towards what females typically like, so naturally, most of the audience is made up of females. In the same way, shounen manga is aimed towards what males typically like. It's not about what the people think of it; it's what the mangaka intends from the beginning. That's what shounen and shoujo are. Girls like romance and guys like action. Not always right, but the general population is like that. Majority rules.

Haha. I've seen a certain research/polls at *big*, reliable sites(once I'll find it I'll link). I'm talking ages around 18+.
You said it yourself, what females "typically" like. It's a stereotype. It is believed to be like that but in fact, it's not. The same applies to male typical preferences of course. The majority of young(ages -15+) males and females usually fit to the concept "girls like romance-guys like action" but such things change as they grow up. It's not about gender, really. It's about the person. And it's not like "not always right, but the general population is like that" because you make it sound like there are very few exceptions to that concept, which is not true. It's like talking about "female gamers" like they are a special species or something xD But they are not because the female gamers are as many as the male ones.

I'm mostly just confused about your "You'd be surprised but there are actually more boys reading shoujo than girls." And in that case, are you saying that girls will lean towards shounen when they get older, and boys will lean towards shoujo?
