i really like the whole idea but like half the characters look like the other half, so i cant tell the difference even with names at points.
and it really doesnt show how i think its Kai has this weird issue that it should in the beginning were he went and like almost murdered the drug dealer. So im really confused.
if someone could explain to me whats going on id be really happy!

Kai was like in another self. Like in the title, he is like a switch, he changes from a happy-go-lucky guy to a different person whenever he sees someone suffer. It will be revealed later on why he really is like that. Kai also doesn't have any memories about what happened when he is in switch mode.

I found the characters really confusing to tell apart too at first. It gets a lot easier. Just remember that the four main characters are Kai, Hal, the chief Hiki, and Kaji. Mari to, but she's one of the only females so she's easy to tell.
And maybe some spoiler characters later on but by that point you'll already be used to the switch art.
Remember that switch has a lot of minor characters like the dealers and such that show up for a little while and never come back so don't worry about them too much.
And uhh, Hal is sometimes called Kurabayashi (last name) and Kai is also sometimes called Eto (last name) so you should know who's being mentioned now.

Ahaha, you too? Yeah, I'm so confused most of the time. But it's cool, right? Persist, persist!!
I can sort-of pick out the plot. But I'm honestly giving thought to suggesting to the mangaka that each character has a different beard or scar, so I can say: "Oh, that's Santa! He's a good guy!" Stuff like that. 'Cause right now they all kinda look like each other.

Exactly what I thought x__x I can't tell the difference between most of the black haired characters...it's so confusing D; But I'm trying my best to understand what happens. Sometimes even re-read some parts o.O

I agree. The first time I read this manga was several years ago... The translations from Timcanpi stopped unfortunately, so did their other manga which I loved reading. Switch had a lot of confusing parts, especially since the characters looked alike and there were a lot of names to remember, and the characters had different ranks. When I read Switch again, I actually reread the whole thing, or at least skimmed through it to refresh my horrible memory. I'm so glad the translations for this manga is continuing. I'm planning to reread this manga for the third time. ^.^

I don't know what it is about this manga that refuses to let me give up on it. I'm probably trying to figure out what's up with Kai. I originally thought this manga was shonen-ai...
