The box holds the mana from the witches hats that tasha collects which he uses to fight with. So in chapter 4 after firing the Desert eagle a couple of time he says he ran out of magic. Since its stated that hats only store mana, and not generate mana, how exactly does mana restore itself after the fight with varette? like wouldn't there be a set point of mana he can use and that's why he collects hats to restore the mana supply he has? or can he generate his own mana at very slow rate? completely unrelated to the question but its bugs me a little that the author makes east seem so surprised after tasha does something when she was testing him and later with varete and him not having any chance at the moment. minor thing, but still.

Hats don't store mana, they generate it. Says so here

It's the dimension box that only stores it.
I am confused though, as to how he 'restores' mana, because he's supposed only get it from hats. The series also makes it seem like Tasha generates mana, which completely contradicts the 'normal humans can't generate mana'. Other people like Taras also seem to be able to use magic. Does anyone know if we missed something important in the manga that could answer our questions, or does anyone have any theories???

as far as i know hats only work as expension pack for manastoring for whitches...

yeah i was under the impression that hats only stored mana and not generated it. so his supply would have to have a limit based on the number hats, but if he can generate mana himself, then the box would sort of serve as his hat i would assume.

Witches' Hats generate mana (they don't just store, as stated before), so Tasha's max mana/mana regeneration is based off of how many hats he has...exactly how hats generate mana for witches or how Tasha uses the hats hasn't been explained yet. Plus there's the mysteries of who Tasha really is, who Halloween really is, who East and Tasha's mentor really are, etc etc, so who can say for sure. I'd imagine either the author will elaborate a bit more in future chapters or will just ignore it, and say DONT WORRY BOUT IT KTHNX.

She was hoping Tasha would take out Aria, which he did, actually, but then Varete came in and messed everything up. Tasha might have even been able to take out Varete, except that Halloween wasn't 100% strength and Tasha was already tired out. She wasn't so much as surprised as hoping he would succeed while knowing he probably wouldn't.
For first meeting, it was necessary in order to come up with some reason why East (a witch) would need to explain to Tasha (a WH) how the world they live in works. Plus it adds to the whole comedic effect and doing it otherwise might turn off the new readers (which, since it's chapter 1, will be everyone).
