The witches' behavior disturbs me too, but probably we'll see an answer in later installments of the series. Probably the author follows the slogan, "absolute power corrupts absolutely." At least not all go baddie, like Monica.

I like the design of the witches though, they're usually cute. Like Magical Girls gone baddie. This is what keeps me hooked.

I don't like the heroes too. They're pathetic. Too flawed, and they don't seem powerful enough to beat the witches. And it when you look at it, it's still witch vs. witch generally, since the Witch Hunters seem to be beneficiaries of witches in a way. And it's the same old, "it's your destiny, you can't escape it crap." Though we may see the tables turned later on, and see witches cringe when a hunter comes along. Let's see what the author is cooking up.

Hm to answer your question about why the witches have to be so evil, I think it was already explained earlier saying that the hat warps their personality and some witches change completely, cuz you can see that in a really early chapter, when Aria's mana was low enough for her original personality to return.

I think what's disturbing is that all of the strong witches(like the great ones) are evil. There is witches in WH, so obviously they aren't all evil. I think the manga in the hats can change their personalities sometimes, because they can't handle the mana. Remember, Tasha became like that when he released his limiter. But then there are exceptions like RyuHwan who can handle it.

East is a fine example. She's selfish and we view her as bad, because she said she is using Tasha, but she doesn't seem to fit "being evil". She also wants to stop South's plan of exterminating humans.

I do think its fucked up that all of the "good" witches are weaker than the "bad" ones though.

There might be another revelation that another outside force may be causing some witches to be bad, although we'll wait for a lot more issues. Yeah, I know the nastier witches tend to be powerful, so I wonder how the WHs are going to power up to deal with them.

The witches also seem to be tragic figures too. One just becomes a witch, and something drives her bad. Good thing the WHs have a rule to catch them alive. Cooga is annoying for disliking that.

I think its like book 8 when tasha went nuts over mana posioning.
Appearently because he couldn't handle all that power,he went nuts.Appearerntly Aria was like that as well.
I think the more powerful they become, the stronger the mana posioning and it than becomes harder to remain sane.

Off couse I think it is possible to control it through proper training.

I agree that it does seem like the more magic you have, the less in control you are. The only thing I don't get is why Tasha's master was 'good' and still super powerful. Like you said, East also doesn't seem super evil. It makes no sense yet, so we,ll probably learn more about it later on in the series.
I agree that the bad guys are way too strong, and that sometimes it does get annoying when the good guys always lose, but I don't mind the good guys having flaws. It's less 'stereotypical super strong heros' and less predictable as well. Series where the main character is strong and always wins are fun to read too, but you know that each battle will be won in the end. This way just adds a bit of suspense, because you're not as sure.
