Mewtwo is a Pokemon created by science, right? Created by science using the cell's of Mew, right? So, how come, Mewtwo is listed as 150, while Mew is listed as 151, when Mew came first? Doesn't that seems just a little bit odd? Sorry, but this has been bugging me for a while.

mew was considered extinct at the time so they didn't count it. Regardless this ignores aerodactule, omaite, and kabuto, but they had more fossiles to trace back to them. Also, mew is considered a phntom pokemon(i think) so there probably wasn't enough evidence to consider it real, besides mewtwo.

My theory is that they were able to get data on Mewtwo before Mew because Mewtwo was MADE.

Maybe it's simply because you could get Mewtwo normaly in games, but not Mew. If Mew were 150, then your pokédex would look like that:
#148 : Dragonair #149: Dragonite #150: ??? #151: Mewtwo Kinda feels wrong considering that every non-japanese would have that annoying hole in the pokedex unless you use the gameshark or abuse bugs. |

You can't explain and canonize everything you know.

This makes no sense in manga-contex if you ask me.
There's a scene where Red and Blue (female blue) are talking about how many Pokèmon there are. He thinks its 150, she says he's wrong, there's 151 because there's an "unknown" Pokèmon called Mew about. Now I'd like to know what 150. Pokèmon she was talking about because Mewtwo didn't even exist (It was being made but wasn't completed) at the time of this conversation! |

I would assume its because the protagonist of the game encounters Mewtwo before he counters Mew...
Or something to do with that. Because the national dex is hardly ordered in terms of what Pokemon existed chronologically, or Arceus would be Number 1, then Mew... etceterea..

But, if it's ordered in what order you meet them, then how are each Pokemon already assigned to a number?
