Comic Natalie (website) released an interview with Ms. Mori and 6 amazing videos that shows how she draws an illustration.
Each video is about 5-7 minutes long, showing every process from rough sketch by pencil, then draws with pen and ink, adding screentones...everything! I have no words to describe how amazingly well and elaborately she draws. The videos have no English subtitles, but you can watch it without any problems because she's not speaking at all. (Please be warned if you hate a sound of ...err, 'scratching your nail on chalkboard' or something like that.) I strongly believe these are very rare videos, please go watch them. It's definitely worth it! This sure is a great kind of art. |

Her art is just so amazing. I mean, the details in all her work, it's mind blowing, not to mention incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing.
Thank you so much for the link. |

Wow. Just wow. o_0 That was a really interesting watch- thank you for posting that!
![]() It just goes to show what a painstaking job these mangakas have- even if I had the skill to match something like that drawing, I doubt I could bring myself to do all those little details in Amira's clothing........ It's incredible. All in a day's work, huh? |

Thanks for watching the video.
Yeah, it's unbelievable how much work she takes to draw just one page..... She says she spends 3 to 4 hours for just one page. Of course she dose, for she draws so detailed. each page. I buy her every book, as I believe that's the only thing I can contribute something.... I hope Otoyome will get officially hit the western market.... Last edited by Mogura; 10-23-2009 at 11:14 AM. |

Prolly she buys something like this, and cut out the fingertips by herself? ttp://www.gazaihanbai.jp/products/detail/product_id/28851.html Brief translation for that part. Interviewer: Those fingerless gloves, you use them for keeping the paper clean, right? Mori: Right. Otherwise, paper gets dirty with greasy fingerprints and such. If you buy them in bulk at packaging material shops, it's very cheap. It functions as a cushion/protection as well, so you won't have callus from drawing with pen. Interviewer: Is that band-aid also for preventing callus? Mori: My middle finger gets really painful when holding a pen, but the pain has been much better since I started using this kind of band-aid with an extra cushion which you'd use it to block blister/sore foot. Plus, the part between my thumb and index finger of my right hand also gets really painful, so I use another band between them under the glove as I come down the homestretch. The band is called Yubikake*1, technically it's used for playing Tsugaru-Jamisen(Tsugaru style shamisen*2), and I use the one for Futozao*3(Literally 'Thick Neck'), even. My grandma used to play Shamisen, that's why I knew this item. LOL -------- Notes *1: Yubikake is a band that a Shamisen player wears between their thumb and index finger on their right hand. It looks like this. How to use Yubikake. (30 seconds video.) *2: Shamisen is a Japanese traditional musical instrument with 3 strings, that looks like a banjo. For more info on Shamisen or Tsugaru-Jamisen, please refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamisen *3: Futozao is a kind of Tsugaru-Jamisen, but of much bigger size. (So, the Yubikake band for Futozao is even bigger than usual one) -------- So, in the picture on page 2 of Natalie website, the black thingy on her right hand is the Yubikake band, and she wears gloves on it. Also, you can see taping around her wrist in the picture; she talks about it in her own blog. She uses something like Kinesio Tex Tape( to protect her wrist from inflammation. By the way, this is off-topic but I saw someone posted on some website that Comic Natalie is her official website... but it's not. ^^ |
