I think the ending was okay the way it was.
It ends when they're still together, and at the peak of their relationship. The happiest part of the manga.

It's open to interpretation. For me, there's two possibilities.
Possibility 1: It's a bittersweet first love, the guy leaves and the girl continues on with some heartache, but nothing suicidal. Possibility 2: Potential everlasting love, the guy leaves and they have a long distance relationship (or maybe one of those relationships where there's no communication during their separation). He comes back and they get back together. The separation can make them fall more in love, or their love is strong enough to withstand the separation. |
