Am I the only person who uses my absolute obsession with certain series to my academic advantage?

If I'm not, who else here uses NnO (or any other series) in their schoolwork? Wanna share anything?

For me, I've used NnO to write a number of vocab sentences for my Composition class (most of them centering around Miharu, Yoite, or both). Though I've also used Kuroshitsuji and Pandora Hearts a few times for those assignments.

Then a few weeks ago we had an assignment in my Comp. class where we had to write a 20 sentence paragraph about anything we wanted to write about. Can you guess what I wrote mine on? =D

It was on NnO AND Yoiharu and their canon relationship. I want to share it here with you, since it's NnO related.

Anime and manga amaze me! I deeply appreciate both the gorgeous artwork and intriguing plots. The recent captors of my heart include: Pandora Hearts, Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), Nabari no Ou, and 07-GHOST. Of these titles, Nabari no Ou caught my attention more than the others. The amazingly well-thought-out and gripping story, combined with beautiful artwork, morph the manga into a true piece of art. Surprisingly, the mangaka (author/artist) creates Nabari with the help of only one assistant. Most mangaka of the other series I follow utilize a full team of assistants to help create their manga. To find one who only requires one assistant—how rare and interesting! I suspect Yuhki Kamatani (the mangaka) is secretly Superwoman! The powerful story of Nabari grips and intoxicates the reader, only slightly surpassing the exceptional artwork. On the surface, the manga revolves around modern-day ninjas, yet when reading, one finds much more to the simple story. Reading further into the story, it begins to develop into a beautiful romance between the two main characters, Miharu and Yoite. Throughout the story, their relationship develops to the point where it reaches an almost soulmate-like status. The sense of completeness and chemistry between them vibrates with unimaginable strength and draws the reader into a web of love, angst and tragedy. When the storyline took a dark turn (for better or worse), emotions escalated high enough to leave many a reader (myself included) in tears. Despite all the evidence therein to support their relationship, other readers believe them nothing more than either “really close friends” or nothing at all. These readers believe because the manga is officially a shounen (boys) manga and not shounen-ai (boys-love), they try to write off Miharu and Yoite’s romantic relationship. Honestly, I personally disagree with their opinion. Unlike most shounen manga, I believe the mangaka suggests a romantic relationship exists within her story. Personally, I feel Miharu caring for and loving Yoite proves my opinion of a romantic relationship. Since I adore the story, I anxiously await the next chapter, which releases soon. The anticipation accompanying the month long wait between chapters pains me greatly. However, the other fans and I cope with the wait through discussion of the series. Discussing recent chapter events and speculating future events provides a great past time and an excellent way to pass the time. However, I wish the discussion happened more frequently due to the readership’s relatively small size.

Fun fact: When editing that paragraph, my homophobic mom totally thought Miharu and Yoite were a guy and a girl (she's never seen them, though). I almost wanted to correct her. Almost.

Nice essay, btw, and I hope you got top scores for it, but I have to ask about your Mom's editting skills. You said she thinks that Miharu and Yoite are a boy/girl couple? Even after this?

I used to use whatever I was reading at the time for various assignments myself, back in the day, but manga wasn't very popular back then.

@Kura: Thank you . I did (kinda) get a good grade on it, but only because the version I turned in still had a bunch of words we weren't supposed to use (like "that" and "is"). The version up there is the one I just got done with editing. My teacher marked us down one point for every instance we used a "bad" word, and I had 11. So instead of a 50/50, I got a 39/50. But my teacher was awesome and said that's the only assignment she lets us rewrite to try and get a better grade on. NOW I should get a proper grade, lol.

And yeah, my mom is old and barely knows a thing about manga or anime. She most likely didn't know what the term meant. I kinda hoped it'd make it obvious, too, but apparently not. She STILL thought Miharu was a girl when she saw a Yoiharu sketch in my sketchbook. And I didn't draw Miharu girly. At least, not anymore girly than he already is...

Well, I'm not into biographies so you won't see this on a profile, but I'm a 46 y/o, medically retired military veteran who just managed to find my way to the internets in November of '07. This is also my excuse for only recently having discovered the world of anime, manga, and fanfics.
