After all the internet hype that went around years ago, everyone was saying Aqualord is the holy grail of the Slayers manga! And there were the usual Ohtsuka is god, etc etc comments, but you know what?

Aqualord sucks.

Early on it was pretty great, there was a good mix of action, comedy, and SERIOUS BUSINESS, just like any Slayers series should be... but then it just started going into LYOS IS UBER, YOU GUYS, SERIOUSLY. Everyone bitches about Filia taking the spotlight from the Slayers crew in Try... but no one has said a word about Lyos? Even Filia wasn't overpowered! She had plot development, but all Lyos has is DRAGONBALL Z PWOERLEVELS AND BUUUUUULGING MUSCLES!!!!!!!

I like shonen. I just don't like it in my Slayers.

PS: Ohtsuka's art sucks.

Frankly i disagree Lyose is borrowing power from the aqualord *wasn't that anti aqua?* and now learning how to use it. I don't know but wasent that kinda how lina was right at the beginning before episode 7? But this is my oponion and i see what your saying but i like lyose as a character ya the art is sub-par

Im debating even if I should try to read Slayers Aqualord after reading some posts. Seriously does it suck that badly?

Well, the first couple of volumes are quite good, so I suggest giving them a shot before giving up completely. It's the latter part of the story that suffers, really.

Yeah, it's kind of retarded that Lyos turned into the Hulk for no reason, and I see no way that the crab lady could have planned all this. And why would a demon want the power of gods, shouldn't they find it revolting?

Well, the plot makes more sense than Bleach at least. Him turning into the hulk seems like your standard plot device super powered evil side kind of trope.
